Biography
Anna Fairbank is a trans-disciplinary and cross media artist who works primarily with photography and sculpture. Trained as an architect, she has worked both in Australia and internationally with leading architectural firms including; Denton Corker Marshall, John Wardle, Carr Design Group and was most recently a principal with Hassell Studio. Working in conceptual frameworks, with a highly crafted focus across built-works, her design practice has encompassed a range of mixed-use residential and commercial, civic and museum projects, and specialised one-off residences.
In recent years Fairbank has developed her work, transferring between architecture, design environments and fine arts, mining the spatial and thinking systems between these fields. Using digital media and photography, Fairbank manipulates the content and medium to explore ways of reinterpreting urban, natural and artificial environments; all which feature prominently in her most recent works.
She holds a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons.) from the University of Melbourne and has studied photography at the International Center of Photography in New York City. Fairbank also participates as a guest critic in art and design at universities at home and abroad, and engages in competitions and collaborative projects. She currently exhibits and operates between Melbourne and New York. Her work is held in various private collections in Australia, Malaysia, Belgium and the USA.
