Simon Lloyd has featured globally in major design surveys and exhibitions in Germany, Japan, Italy and the UK.
Lloyd's background in industrial design informs much of his visual arts practice. His pieces evolve from 3D sculptural pieces to relief paintings and back again into a third dimension, steppingo off the canvas.
Material qualities and behaviours remain a strong focus through which Lloyd develps each investigation between line and form. The expanded practice of Lloyd engaes thereforew tih familiar design processes and an industial language which has been dissected and collapsed.
"Painting for me is about possibilities, trying out ideas, seeing where they go and what happens on the way. The greatthing is never quite knowing what might happen or where you might find yourself. Through many years of designingand making objects l have developed a rich relationship with materials, from the warmth and lightness of wood to thedense richness of cast iron. Paint in many ways is no different, the particular way it might flow or gel on the surfaceof a canvas. Of course l have a lot to understand still but the learning process is also a very dynamic one. My 2015 exhibition at Anita Traverso Gallery will comprise of three new phases of paintings-based works thathave developed since the black and white relief series of 2013. I enjoy this combination of elements; paintings and sculpture, but in particular the way they might inhabit the spaceand the atmosphere l hope they will create. I am very fortunate that the ATG gallery space has a quite intimate and beautiful range of interior elements that coalesce so well." -- Lloyd 2015
