Reminiscent of architectural and organic structures, Hargrave’s sculptural work centres around the tradition of ‘found object‘ using utilitarian or manufactured items to create artworks that transform the ordinary and everyday into what the artist describes as “invented systems that pulse with rhythm and beauty.”
Hargrave's work also enters the very contemporary field of environmental concerns within arts practice. The use of discarded objects cleverly prompts a dialogue about the global state of material consumption. These items become, or return to, organic forms raising the discussion of the materialist cycles that currently feature in our world and impact on the planet so heavily.
